Question: Why do liberals like to tax the wealthy and conservatives like to cut taxes for the wealthy?

Answer: That's the way it has been ever since there were taxes. You tax the people with the money. You can't tax anyone else cause they have no money to tax.

In old times, the King would tax his nobles, and the nobles would tax their thanes and knights and manor overlords, and those guys would all tax the peasants who slaved for them.

Now it works the same, except the overt taxation is from the rich to the government, and the government directly taxes the peasants too. It used to be unheard of for the king to tax the peasants. And the nobles still tax the peasants, too. Modern nobles are known as bankers and capitalists, and they exact taxes on the peasants in the form of interest. Interest is a secret tax. Wanna buy a house, you have to sign a contract with a capitalist overlord agreeing to pay them a tax for the next 20 years. Same if you wanna buy a car. Same if you wanna do anything but live in an apartment and ride a bike everywhere. You have to pay taxes both to the rich and to the government. So now it's even worse for the peasants than it was in medieval times.
