Question: Why is there a gap in eligibility for the EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit) if you are between ages 18-24?

I mean is it ridculuous to think that someone between the ages of 18-24 could have children and live a normal life? What can be done to change this tax code?

Update: If you follow the guidelines for EITC eligibility in the 1040EZ instruction booklet, it says that the EITC cannot be taken unless I am 25 or older!
Does this conflict with other IRS literature?

I am 23 years old. I had my first child and mortgage at the age of 19. As of now I am on my second child and second house and doing just fine.

Answer: The tax code can be changed by Congress voting to change it. This happens quite often. Contrary to one of the other answers, you must contact your FEDERAL, not state, representatives to request a change to the Internal Revenue Code.

Question: Does tax free weekend extend to online sales?

So I'm planning on buying a laptop for college this fall, but my parents told me there is a tax free weekend going on here in North Carolina soon. So I was wondering if I could buy my laptop online and still have it tax free?

Answer: Any retailer with a NC nexus, online or otherwise, is required to collect and render NC sales taxes on all taxable goods and services delivered to a NC address. All NC retailers are required to collect and render ONLY the legally due NC sales taxes. Therefore any online retailer with a NC nexus is REQUIRED BY LAW to honor the tax-free holiday rates on taxable sales.

Question: Can I file my taxes, with my wife and children as dependents, to where Florida Child Support won't garnish all?

Thanks for the answers! I just received an answer from a CPA, think it might be the right one. She said that there's an injured spouse allocation form. In effect, it would legally and properly distribute the tax return between Child Support Enforcement and my household. This is great for those who have taken the responsibility of paying off their legally-binding debt while they continue providing for ALL their children.

Answer: Why are you in arrears? If there was a justifiable cause, you could file to get the arrears reduced.
