Are Corporate Tax Returns Public Information

Question: Where can I locate corporate annual reports and tax filings?
I want to do research on certain corporations' annual reports and see their tax returns. I understand neither are considered proprietary but part of the public record, but don't know where to locate this information. Please advise.
Answer: Annual reports are usually available on the company's web site under Investor Relations. If not t here, you can call the investor's relations department and request copies of the annual reports. SEC filings can be found by using EDGAR, the SEC's electronic database. Tax returns are not public records - there was some discussion in the early years of this century about making portions of the tax returns public, but nothing ever happened.

State Faults Holland District's Budget Practices
The Holland Central School District has enjoyed a full piggybank of reserve money over the years, something state auditors feel is a detriment to the community's tax base. How To Pay Ebay Taxes

Question: How do I pay taxes for stuff I sell on ebay?
I'm planning on selling body jewelry on ebay (hopefully it works out). I'm a poor college and I need money.
Anyway, if the selling does happen to be successful, how do I go about paying taxes? I've never paid taxes before.
(I've never had a "real" job before. I made a lot of money in high school petsitting).
Answer: Well I think that if you sell under a certain amount, it may be classified as a "hobby" and you wont have to pay taxes on it. Please do not take my word for this, go ask a professional.
And in the case that you do pay taxes, I think that you can just fill out a 1099 at the end of the year, that you will list your sales minus expenses, and this amount will go onto a certain line on your personal 1040 tax form.
This is all for income tax.
As far as sales tax, if you are a bona fide business, then you'd have to collect sales tax from a buyer who lives in the same state as you. Say you live in California, if you sell to someone in California, you have to collect the sales tax. You would have to apply for a sales tax license in this case. If you sell to someone else, like me in Michigan, then you don't have to charge me sales tax.

How To File Taxes For Llc

Question: How to file tax return for partnership/LLC?
We (3 of us lives in different states) started a new partnership/LLC company in Maryland in 2006 (one of us lives in Maryland). We had a few thousand dollar expenses (for equipments) but had no income nor any real business in 2006. We need some basic knowledge about filing the tax.
1. We do not have any accounting person. Do we need to hire one or it is pretty simple and we can do ourselves?
2. What software we can use?
3. When is the deadline for filing federal and state tax?
4. Any other suggestions?Thanks.
Answer: You should hire a tax professional to assist you instead of posting the questions here to save money.
Unfortunately, too many people commonly set up companies without knowing about the tax consequences of their actions.
Anyway...
You can prepare your own tax return IF you are comfortable with doing so.
Any tax software will do. Remember that it's NOT necessarily the softwares fault. The software primarily summarizes and categories the amounts based on the user's input. Garbage in, garbare out!
Which state is the business actually located in? Many people can register their business in ANY state but actually do business in another state. Many people incorporate in Delaware (since DE laws are more "liberal" than some other states) but they operate their businesses in other states.
An LLC can CHOOSE to file as a partnership or a corporation (i.e. Check the box rules). The type of entity will help determine many factors such as the filing deadline (Generally, most LLC's file as a partnership).
EACH state has Different laws regarding LLC's so you MUST be familiar with the laws of your state.
A tax professional can assist you. Better yet, if someone (i.e. your attorney) helped register your LLC papers, ask that attorney for tax advice! That's what you paid for!
