Are Taxes Fair

Are Taxes Fair

Question: Does anyone else here think the Fair Tax is a great idea?

No payroll taxes, a quarterly prebate. If anyone thinks it is a bad idea then I am afraid you may not understand the concept of the fair tax. And I would love to educate you about it.
A black market? why would there be a black market when the price of products is the same after it was passed as before? I am sure the numbers would remain almost unchanged.

Answer: It's a sales tax, right? It's going to create a HUGE black market for everything.

Ok, let's say all of these embedded taxes are gone. So the base price of a good is lower. And a federal sales tax is added, so the sales price is roughly the same as it is now. That still means that a very large portion of the purchase price is tax. With expensive items like TVs and appliances, the sales tax could make up hundreds or even thousands of dollars. I don't see why a black market wouldn't form, unless you couple "fair tax" with totalitarianism.
