Question: My husband owes money to the IRS for his business taxes. Can we mail the finished taxes in but pay later?
Answer: Yes, but you should pay as much as possible with your return and pay off the balance prior to April 17th to avoid penalties and interest for late payment of tax. Any outstanding balance on April 17th will start to attract penalties and interest so it's in your best interest to pay as much as possible by then.
