How to prepare my tax for free?
There are many ways to prepare your tax
return for free. First of all, each year from the beginning of
February through April 15, the AARP, tax aide, or other tax
preparation assistance programs offer tax preparation help for
people who need them, with the emphasis on elderly taxpayers
and low income taxpayers.
AARP and IRS approved helpers
You can have your tax return prepared for
free by going to one of these IRS approved helpers. They are
usually at public libraries and community centers. Check with
the libraries before you go to have your tax return
prepared for free the times they will be there.
There are also other community help services
to help people prepare their tax returns.
However, since you will not pay any of these
helpers any money for their tax preparation help, they will not
put their name on your tax return. The tax return will be
viewed by the IRS as if it was prepared by you and not by the
tax aide.
Free tax preparation software
There are many tax preparation software that
will allow you to prepare your tax return for free. But, they
will try to charge you a small amount of money when you want to
move forward and file your tax return which you have prepared.
However, if you don't want to spend money e-filing your tax
return, you can print out the 1040 form as well as additional
forms and send them to the IRS.
